MUMBLINGS April 20, 2006
In recent months we have discussed and tried
to decide which are the Seven Greatest Wonders of the World this
writer has seen.
To this date we have discussed at length ten
possibilities namely, Grand Canyon, Glacier National Park, The
Great Wall of China, New York City, The Great Barrier Reefs of
Australia, Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal, The Pyramids of Egypt, Amazon
River, and Panama Canal.
We said the Grand Canyon of Arizona was number
one in the Seven. We were just kidding.
All of you readers have seen, and been in, the
Greatest Wonder of the World… THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
Never in the history of the world has any country
proven to be as great as the United States, which is often referred
to as Uncle Sam, Yankee Land, The States, America, USA, etc.
Throughout history, there have been great countries,
but none to compare with the one in which you and I live. It is
great. We have the finest living conditions that have ever been
known to man. Comparatively, the residents of this great geographical
subdivision of the world are tops. People who live on welfare
in this country have a better standard of living of all people
in the rest of the world. Make no bones about it, this is a great
country. United States of America is a federal republic situated
in North America,
and is boarded to the north by Canada and to the south by Mexico.
It has fifty states and one federal district, (Washington D.C.)
and has several territories, with different degrees of affiliation.
Our forefathers gained our independence from Great Britain, by
fighting the Revolutionary War declaring our independence July
4, 1776. With USA’s 3,718,711 square miles, we are the third
largest in area, exceeded only by Russia and Canada. Interestingly,
of this vast area, almost five percent is covered by surface water…
rivers, lakes, and ponds.
The 2000 census showed us with 281,421,906 population
and it is now estimated to be at 298,000,000 or approximately
300,000,000.
The population is probably the most varied in
the world. We have over 200 nationalities represented here with
181 in New York City alone.
